About Kathy Lawson
Equine Nutrition Solved was set up by myself, Kathy Lawson MSc, to enable horse owners, trainers and riders to access comprehensive and truly independent advice on equine nutrition.
The number of feeds available in the UK is mind boggling and constantly changing and whilst most feed companies offer a free nutrition help-line to assist horse owners with solving their feeding problems, they can only advise on their own products and often the best solution may need to use the products from more than one company. Equine Nutrition Solved will use the whole gamut of feeds and supplements to find a bespoke diet to satisfy the nutritional needs of each
individual horse or pony.
Who is Kathy Lawson ?
I am an equine nutritionist with more than 30 years of experience in horse and pony nutrition and have been responsible for formulating diets for all types of equines from miniature horses to racehorses. These have included Grand National winner – Auroras Encore – trained by Sue and Harvey Smith and the fabulous Monet’s Garden – trained by Nicky Richards.
I have been closely involved with horses and ponies since I was 10 years old when I earned pocket money working on a Welsh Pony Stud in my village. I showed these ponies (including stallions), both in hand and under saddle, at County and National level. In the winter I hunted the stallions with the Quorn Hunt. It was only after I graduated that I decided to make a career out of horses and that the most likely discipline to be able to do this was racing. I worked within the racing sector for around 12 years before returning to University to complete an MSc in Equine Science. I completed my BHS exams just prior
Following this, I lectured at various equine colleges where I taught many aspects of equine science including nutrition, both practical and academic, up to post-graduate level and also pursued my own research projects.
I was then approached to work for aleading horse feed company which I did for 14 years, I worked both in the UK and abroad, including in the Middle East, Japan and China, working at all levels with all disciplines including leisure riding, showing, dressage, show jumping, eventing, endurance, racing and with Olympic competitors.
